Main navigation elements

The following capabilities are available on all Productboard plans.

Productboard is a flexible and powerful platform with many sections and pages. This article provides a reference for the various elements of Productboard's Main navigation area to help you navigate more confidently.

Note: We've recently made improvements to Productboard's Main navigation. No functionality has been removed, but things you're used to seeing in one place may have moved to another. The first section of this article details these changes.

Summary of recent changes

Here is a summary of the major differences between the old Main navigation area and the new one. The order of this list corresponds to the diagram on the right.

  1. The Workspace menu has been shortened to display just the logo.
  2. Quick find is now an item on the Main menu called Search.
  3. The Notifications button has been moved to the bottom of the Main menu.
  4. Boards, Favorites, Teamspaces, and your Personal section all live within the Home main menu item.
  5. The Insights, Products, Portal, Reports, and Customers board pages each have their own item on the Main menu, along with a new item called Documents.
  6. The Data section has its own main menu item now.
  7. Settings has moved out of the Workspace menu and now lives at the bottom of the Main menu.

We redesigned the navigation experience to make it faster and easier to access the boards and data you need. With this update, you’ll benefit from:

  • Simplified layout: Quickly find what you need with a cleaner, more organized structure.
  • Faster access to data: Navigate seamlessly between different favorites, boards and teamspaces.
  • Better discoverability: Easily locate key information and data, reducing the time spent searching.

This update is designed to enhance your workflow, making Productboard more intuitive and efficient for your daily tasks.

Main navigation area

The Main navigation area lives on the left side of the screen. Virtually everything you do while navigating between the different boards and pages of Productboard happens from here.

Within Main navigation is the Main menu, which is made up of main menu items. Later in this article you will find information about the contents of each main menu item.

When you open a main menu item, the submenu changes to display related submenu items. For example, in the below image, Boards is a submenu item within the Home submenu.

Note: If your plan does not include certain features, like the Customers boards or reports, they will simply not appear in the Main menu or any submenus.

Main menu item list

Below you'll find information about each item on the Main menu.

Note: Any main menu items which can't fit on the main menu due to your screen's resolution will be collected into a special main menu item called More.

Workspace menu

Located at the top of the Main menu, the Workspace menu allows you to switch between different workspaces, invite new members to the current workspace, and edit your own account details.

Create

This button allows you to create a new board of any type. Boards created in this way are placed in your Personal section, meaning they won't be visible to others until you move them into a teamspace. You can manage teamspaces and your Personal section from Home.

Search

Find and access any board in your workspace using the Search button, as long as you have permission to do so. See Access control guide for details on how permissions work.

Home

The Home submenu helps you manage and navigate your boards and teamspaces. Most people spend most of their time here.

Home submenu items
  • Getting started: This page contains a checklist and helpful resource links to help you get your workspace off the ground. It's only visible during the trial period.
  • Boards: An overview of all the boards in your workspace. You can filter the list by board type, search for specific boards, manage them using the ••• More actions button, or create new ones from here. Boards created from the Boards page will appear in your Personal section by default.
  • Favorites: You can add any board to this list from its ••• More actions menu or by opening the board and clicking the ⭐ star in the header by its name.

  • Teamspaces: You can organize your workspace's boards by team, department, focus area, or any other method by using teamspaces. If you hover over the submenu item, you'll see two buttons. The first leads to the All teamspaces page, where you can join and leave teamspaces to minimize clutter. The second allows you to create new teamspaces (though you can also do this from All teamspaces).

  • Personal: Boards that live here are private, meaning only you can see them.* This is useful for planning and experimenting with new boards without worrying about others seeing them before they're ready. This is also the default location for new boards that are not created within a specific teamspace. You can move boards between your Personal section and the teamspaces you've joined.

    * Note: Actually, boards in your Personal section can be seen by admins too, but only if they use the Search bar; nobody except you can browse through your Personal folder structure.

Insights

The Insights submenu contains a special insights board called All notes that can't be deleted or permanently edited. You can, however, change the filters, making this board useful for short-term investigations into subsets of your collected feedback. If you create a subset you want to keep, you can click Save as new board. It will appear in your Personal section.

The Analytics submenu item is only available to workspaces with access to insights analytics. It allows you to visualize trends across your feedback and (with certain add-ons) have AI generate reports for you.

Products

The Products submenu contains special grid boards that can't be deleted or permanently edited. These boards can be used as reference templates. You can add columns and edit filters, and if you create a grid you want to keep, you can click Save as new to send a copy to your Personal section.

Customers

The Customers board organizes your workspace's feedback by company. It surfaces all the information you need to dig into the needs of specific customers, including how many notes are associated with them and which features they've shown interest in.

Portal

Portals are flexible, interactive interfaces you can share with colleagues or customers to validate ideas and keep everyone informed. All new ideas and feedback submitted on a portal are routed back to your insights boards for you to analyze alongside inputs streaming in from other channels.

This page gives you a summary of every document that lives in your workspace (and that you have access to), including their teamspace locations and editing timestamps. You can open documents from here, as well as manage them through their ••• More actions menus.
