Create new items quickly

Pricing banner: The following capabilities are available on all Productboard plans.

You can create new items from the main menu without having to open a specific page. Doing so significantly reduces the amount of clicking and thinking you have to do to create something like a new note, feature, or release. You can also create and update entities by describing what you want to Spark.

In this article:

The global create button

To create a new item from anywhere:

  1. In the Global header, click Create.

  2. Select or type the name of the item you wish to create. (You can also create new boards this way!) Alternatively, click Import in the footer to import Companies, Notes, or Features.

  3. Give your new item a name.
  4. (Optional) If your new item requires a parent or location, specify it. For example, if you're creating a component, you must specify the parent product under which your new component will live.
  5. Click Create [item].

  6. A sidebar will appear with the details of you new item, and you can begin filling it out immediately.

Note: The sidebar will appear on top of your current page, meaning you won't have to navigate back to whatever you were doing once you're done configuring your new item. Just close the sidebar!

Creating entities with Spark

Spark can create and update entities directly from a conversation, without opening the create menu. Describe what you want in plain language, and Spark shows you a confirmation preview before making any changes.

You must have editor access to an entity to create or update it with Spark. If you have access:

  1. Open Spark and describe what you want to create. For example, "Create a feature called Dark mode under the Settings component."
  2. Review the confirmation preview Spark shows before committing the change.
  3. Confirm to create the entity, or ask Spark to adjust your request.

Spark supports features, subfeatures, components, initiatives, products, objectives, key results, releases, and release groups, and can handle up to 25 entities in a single request. You can also ask Spark to update existing entities or manage relationships between them, such as linking a feature to an initiative.

See Create and update entities from Spark for the full list of supported fields, relationship types, and example prompts.
