Notifications keep you informed of changes made to items and notes relevant to your work. For example, when someone comments on a feature you own or processes a note you submitted, you'll get a notification.
This article describes when, how, and to whom notifications are delivered. It also outlines options for disabling certain notifications should you find them too noisy.

When are notifications sent?
You'll receive notifications when certain changes are made to notes or items which are relevant to you. Generally, a note or item is considered relevant to you if you own it or follow it. Any notes you create are also considered relevant to you, even if you don't own or follow them.
Here are the events that trigger notifications:
- A colleague comments on a note or item that you own or follow.
- A colleague @-mentions you in a comment on any note, item, or document, even if you don't own or follow it.
- If you add or reply to a comment on a document, you'll receive a notification whenever someone else contributes to that same comment thread, even if they don't @-mention you specifically.
- You are assigned ownership of a note or item.
- A note you own, follow, or created yourself changes status (it's marked as Processed, Unprocessed, or Archived).
- An item you own or follow changes status or timeframe, or is assigned to a new release.
- An item you own or follow receives a new health update.
There are also aggregate notifications that are sent at a specific time and cover many changes at once:
- Daily overview (makers only): Summarizes create, edit, and delete events for features, notes, releases, objectives, segments, users, and companies. Also summarizes status changes for features specifically.
- Insights digest (makers and contributors): An overview of feedback trends in your workspace over the last week.
Note: There are many events for which notifications are not sent (for example, changes to item tags and descriptions). If you're interested in receiving such notifications, please submit an idea on our portal.
How are notifications delivered?
Productboard notifications are delivered via email and in-app. In most cases, you'll receive the notification in both places to ensure you don't miss it.
(You can also set up Slack notifications. See Track workspace updates using a Slack notification feed for details.)
To access your in-app notifications, click the Notifications button at the bottom of the main menu. Here, you can view both your direct notifications (related to things you own) and following notifications (things you follow).
Note: It's not currently possible to deactivate in-app notifications, though you can disable certain email notifications (see below).
Who receives notifications?
All Productboard users can receive notifications, though your member role determines which notifications you're eligible for.
- Admins and makers can receive all notifications.
- Contributors can receive all notifications except for the daily overview.
- Viewers can receive all notifications except for the daily overview and insights digest.
Note: When a viewer receives an insights-related notification, they cannot click on the notification to navigate to the relevant note (unlike other roles). This is because the viewer role doesn't have permission to access insights boards at all.
Disabling email notifications
You can disable certain email notifications if you don't find them useful. To do so:
- From the Main menu, click Settings.
- Select My account.
- Scroll down to the Notification settings section and toggle off any you no longer wish to receive.
