Activating Spark in your workspace

Pricing banner: The following capabilities are available on all Productboard plans.

As a workspace admin, you control when Productboard Spark becomes available to your team.

This article explains how you're notified about Spark, how to enable it, how to configure it with the admin setup skill, and how to manage access after Spark goes live.

In this article:

Being notified about Spark

When your workspace becomes eligible for Spark, Productboard notifies you in two ways. An email is sent to all workspace admins, and an in-app banner appears in your Productboard workspace. The banner includes an Enable Spark call to action and remains visible until you act on it. Both the email and the banner link directly to the enablement modal.

Enabling Spark for your workspace

You must be a workspace admin to enable Spark. To start the flow, click Enable Spark in the in-app banner or the admin email. A modal opens with three things to review before you confirm.

Reviewing the AI terms

The modal shows a summary of Productboard's AI Terms. Read the summary, then select the checkbox to confirm your acceptance. You can read the full terms at productboard.com/legal/productboard-ai-terms.

Reviewing your credit balance

The modal also displays your current Spark credit balance. Credits are consumed as team members use Spark. Review your balance before proceeding, then click Enable Spark.

What happens after you enable Spark

Spark immediately begins reading your workspace data, including customer feedback, product data, and market signals. Give it a few hours to fully process your workspace before expecting the most accurate outputs. Your team will also start to see Spark entry points in Productboard.

Note: Activating Spark makes it visible and usable to all members of your workspace. After it's activated, you can change its visibility. See Managing Spark access after enablement below.

Each team member sees a one-time personalized introduction the first time they open Spark.

Setting up Spark with the admin setup skill

The admin setup skill is a guided conversation in Spark chat that prepares Spark for your team. It walks you through four configuration areas.

In any Spark chat, enter "/spark-admin-onboarding" to start the admin setup skill.

Note: You can start the admin setup skill immediately after enabling Spark, or return to it later from the Spark chat panel.

  • Product context: Spark reviews the information it already has about your product and company. You can verify or update these details so Spark's analysis and suggestions are accurate.
  • Help Center: Connect your Help Center or public documentation. Spark uses this to understand how your product is presented to customers.
  • GitHub: Connect your GitHub repository so Spark can understand your technical product context, including what's been built and what's in progress.
  • Public review sources: Connect public review platforms, such as G2, the App Store, and Trustpilot. Spark ingests customer feedback from these sources alongside the feedback and insights already in your workspace.

Reminder emails for non-acting admins

If you receive the Spark enablement notification but don't enable Spark, Productboard sends two follow-up emails.

  • Day 7: A reminder to enable Spark, with context on what it can do for your team.
  • Day 14: A second reminder with additional value context.

Each email includes an opt-out link. Clicking it stops further reminder emails.

Note: If you disable reminders, you can still activate Spark at any time by clicking the entry point in the Home submenu.

Managing Spark access after enablement

When you enable Spark, it becomes available to all members of your workspace by default. After Spark is live, you can adjust who can access it. Go to Settings > Labs and find the Spark visibility settings.

Setting Who can access Spark
Everyone (default) All workspace members.
Admins only Workspace admins only.
Off No one can access Spark.

Spark access is role-based and applies to the whole workspace. You can't grant or revoke access for individual users.
