Understanding how notifications work in Productboard

With Productboard, you can collaborate with colleagues through every phase of product ideation, prioritization, planning, and delivery.

Notifications help by alerting all relevant parties that a conversation of interest to them is taking place somewhere in Productboard.

Understanding when you receive notifications

In Productboard, you receive two types of notifications: email and in-app. You can also set up the Slack notification integration.

In-app notifications

You can access in-app notifications by clicking the Notifications icon(Notification.svg) in your workspace. There you can see notifications for entities you're owning (Direct) or following (Following):

Note: It's not currently possible to deactivate in-app notifications.

Email Notifications

You'll receive email notifications automatically to your email.

Per-action email notifications

When changes have been triggered to specific entities you own or follow, you will receive an email notification containing all the important information.

The email notification contains all the important information about what changes have been triggered to specific features you're following or owning:

You'll receive email and in-app notifications in the following situations:

  • A colleague comments on an entity that you own or follow
  • You are assigned ownership of a note or feature
  • A colleague @mentions you in a comment on any entity

You’ll receive email notifications only in the following situations:

  • When entities you own or follow change statustimeframe, or release
  • When a new health update is created for features you own or follow.

Aggregate email notifications

Makers and contributors can find Notification settings on their Account Info page, where they can control whether they will receive aggregate email notifications.
Makers can receive a daily overview, insights digest, feature updates, and feature health update emails. Contributors will receive all emails except for the daily overview email.

Daily summary (Makers only): Comprehensive email summaries of all that's changed in the workspace each day.

The following events are included in daily summary emails:


  • Features
created, updated, deleted, changed status, or received a new comment
  • Notes
  • Releases
  • Objectives
  • Segments
  • Users
  • Companies
  • Competitors
created, updated, deleted, or received a new comment

Insights digest: Insights trends weekly email digest gives makers and contributors an overview of trends in their workspace to help them understand where they need to focus their efforts or if anything needs their attention. Read more

Note was linked: When an insight is created from a note that you created or follow, you will receive an email notification containing information about the note (note title, user, company), which feature the insight was linked to, the content of the linked insight and by whom it was linked.

Feature updates: Whenever a feature where the status, timeframe or release is changed, you will receive an email notification containing all the important information about such change - what was changed, when and by whom.

Feature health updates: Whenever a health update is created, you will receive an email notification about the health (On track, At risk, Off track), created by whom, and the health update description. Read more

Limitations

At this time, owners and followers only receive notifications for the events listed above — primarily to be alerted of new comments that may be relevant to them.

Notifications are not yet sent for the below events:

  • Note: Tag added
  • Feature description edited
  • Note: Said by updated
  • Feature prioritization criteria/data updated
  • Note: Description edited

 

Viewers will only receive notifications when @mentioned in a comment on a feature. They will not receive notifications when @mentioned on a note — they are not able to access the Insights board.
