The layouts of grids, timelines, and columns boards are interchangeable. For example, you can change a grid into a columns board at any time. This allows you to experiment with finding the right layout for a board without having to create a different type of board from scratch.

Switching a board to a new layout
- In the header of any New experience board, click Board controls.
- Select the layout you'd like to switch to and click Apply.
Note: If the main item type of your original layout is not supported by the layout you're switching to, your main item will change automatically.
- Your board will switch to the new layout, retaining your main and underlying items, if possible. Depending on the new layout, you may need to configure options that were not available on your original layout (like the Columns section under Board controls, if you've just switched to a columns board).
- When you're happy with the new layout, click Save. Otherwise, colleagues who visit this board will not be able to see the changes you made. Alternatively, use the dropdown arrow on the Save button to either save this as a separate board in your Personal section, or discard your changes and revert to the last saved version of this board.
