Configuring features progress tracking
Progress tracking works with the feature completion status, so before being able to view it on your roadmap, you must set up statuses correctly.
To configure statuses, follow these steps:
- Click on the workspace name, then Settings (
):
- Under Status customization, in the Mark as completed column, toggle on the statuses you'd like to count towards completion:
Enabling the features' progress on roadmaps
To enable features progress tracking on your roadmap, follow these steps:
- On your roadmap, go to Configure (
)
- Toggle on Feature Progress (
) in the Feature Visualization section of the settings:
Note: Only makers can configure roadmap settings, including toggling on progress tracking.
Different ways to track progress
Progress on all features, objectives, and releases can be tracked in two different ways:
- Calculated progress based on statuses - to make your life easier, you can use a calculated progress tracking, that is based on a feature status (for objectives, releases, and features without subfeatures) and subfeature status (for features with subfeatures)
Note: When you enable progress tracking on a roadmap, you default to calculated progress tracking.
- Manual progress tracking
In the sidebar of features, objectives, and releases, you can toggle on manual progress tracking. You can then drag the progress manually to a value that you wish to have.
Note: When you switch from calculated to manual progress tracking for the first time, the progress will be 0%. After that, Productboard will remember the last manual value.when you switch from manual back to calculated, the progress gets recalculated.
Updating features and subfeatures statuses for calculated progress tracking
We calculate the progress based on the feature and subfeature status. When you select statuses that count towards completion the progress bar will advance on the feature.
There are two ways to change the status of your features:
- You can change the feature and subfeature status either on the roadmap board:
- Or you can click on the feature, and change the feature and subfeature statuses in the sidebar view:
Features progress for features without subfeatures
If a feature doesn't have any subfeatures, the progress is calculated from the feature status. Only features that are marked as completed (as configured in the settings) are counted towards completion.
Features progress for features with subfeatures
For a feature with subfeatures, the progress is calculated from the status of the subfeatures. All the subfeatures are counted equally towards the completion.
Example: A feature has 10 subfeatures. Only 3 of the subfeatures are marked as “done”, progress is thus 30%.
Note: Only makers can change the status of features and subfeatures.
Objectives and Releases
For objectives and releases, the progress is calculated from the status of the features. All features are counted equally towards the completion rate.
Note: Objective and Release progress tracking is visualized on timeline-based roadmaps only.
Enabling objectives progress on roadmaps
To enable objective progress tracking on your roadmap follow these steps:
Note: For the progress tracking to work on a column roadmap, you need to have the grouping by objectives enabled first.
- On your roadmap, go to Configure(
)
- Scroll down to Progress
- Toggle on Objective Progress, the progress on the objectives will advance as the features statuses are updated using calculated tracking.
For objectives, the progress is calculated from the status of the underlying features.
There are two ways to change the status of your features:
-
- Change the feature status on the roadmap board.
- Click on the objective, and change the feature statuses in the detail view.
Note: Only makers can configure roadmap settings, including toggling on progress tracking.
Enabling the release progress on roadmaps
To enable release progress tracking on your roadmap follow these steps:
- On your roadmap, go to Configure (
)
- Toggle on Progress in the Release Visualization section of the settings; the progress on the objectives will advance as the features statuses are updated using calculated tracking.
For releases, the progress is calculated from the status of the underlying features.
There are two ways to change the status of your features:
- Changing the feature status on the roadmap board.
- Click on the release, and change the feature statuses in the detail view.
Note: Only makers can configure roadmap settings, including toggling on progress tracking.
