Progress tracking modes
There are three ways to track progress for a given item:
- Manual: You can manually update the progress for all supported item types, giving you full control over how the progress is reflected on each item.
- Status-based: Progress can be tied to the status of features and subfeatures. You can customize the amount of progress each status contributes (see below).
- Calculated: Progress can be calculated automatically based on the progress of sub-items. For example, a feature's progress can be rolled up from the progress of its subfeatures. This works on all supported items except subfeatures (because subfeatures can't have sub-items).
Progress tracking modes are set on an item-by-item basis, meaning you could have one objective use manual progress tracking and another use calculated tracking.
To change an item's progress tracking mode:
- Click on the item to open its detail sidebar.
- Scroll down to the Work Progress and Health section.
- Hover over the progress bar to reveal the edit button. Click this button.
- Select a progress tracking mode from the dropdown.
Visualizing progress on roadmaps
Progress visualization can be enabled from the Card customization menu of any roadmap. Each item's progress will be displayed as a blue bar on its card.
See Customize your roadmaps with card attributes for details.
Visualizing progress on grids
Progress visualization can be enabled by adding a column to a grid board by clicking Add columns > Default fields > Work progress. Each item's progress will be displayed in the column.
Customizing status-based progress percentages
You can define the specific amount of progress each status should contribute toward a feature or subfeature's total progress. This customization can help you tailor your progress tracking to better fit your team's workflow.
To customize status-based progress percentages:
- From the bottom of the Main menu, click Settings > Item customization.
- Click on the statuses in the Features row to open the status customization sidebar.
- Click on a status' value in the Progress column, then click Percentage to edit the value.
- (Optional) Click Progress > No update, included in rollups or No update, excluded from rollups if the status should not have a percentage attached.
