Link documents to entities with the Resources tab

Pricing banner: The following capabilities are available on all Productboard plans.

The Resources tab gives you a dedicated place to manage product documents. From here, you can link existing documents, create new ones, and ask Spark to handle linking for you.

This tab and functionality is available for initiatives, features, and subfeatures.

Note: The Resources tab replaces the Documents section that previously appeared in the Details sidebar.

What the Resources tab shows

The Resources tab shows all product documents linked to that entity in one place. All team members with access to the entity can view the tab.

Linking an existing document

To link an existing document, you need edit permission on the entity and full access to the document. If you have both:

  1. Click on any initiative, feature, or subfeature to open its sidebar.
  2. Click the Resources tab.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Search for and select the document you want to link.
  5. The document appears in the Resources tab.

Note: If the document is already linked to the entity, Productboard shows an error and skips the duplicate.

Creating a new document

You can create and link a new document from the Resources tab, as long as you have edit permission on the entity. If you do:

  1. Click on any initiative, feature, or subfeature to open its sidebar.
  2. Click the Resources tab.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click Create new document.
  5. Productboard creates the document in your Personal section, links it to the entity, and opens it for editing.

Note: Spark document linking requires Spark access. Contact your workspace admin if you're not sure whether Spark is available on your plan.

Spark can link any existing document to an initiative or feature. Open the entity detail page and ask Spark something like: "Link [document name] to this initiative." Spark links the document and it appears in the Resources tab right away.

Spark also links documents automatically. When Spark creates a document while you're working in the context of an initiative or feature, it links the new document to that entity. No extra steps needed.
